While Dr. Cord offers all types of dentures, we are best known for our expertise with implant dentures and patients travel considerable distances for this service.  Implant retained dentures can change everything by providing a solid foundation.  They allow for more confidence, comfort, freedom, and function by offering a more superior option to traditional dentures. Implant retained dentures help enhance appearance by preserving facial structure and preventing bone deterioration caused by missing teeth. There’s no adhesive and no fear of slipping, just a natural look that feels great.

Our dedicated dental team will work with all patients interested in implant retained dentures by performing a complete dental/radiographic evaluation before thoroughly discussing health history to address specific concerns for a considerate, personalized level of care.

How Do Implant Retained Dentures Work?

Depending on the patient’s individual needs and jaw structure, there are a few different options Dr. Cord can utilize to create a healthy, long-lasting smile. Implant posts can be placed in the lower jaw to securely hold dentures in place, and keep a patient’s bone intact with added support. Depending on what option best suits a patient, the number of implant posts will vary. These implants create an anchor for both partial and full dentures. Two of these options do allow for the removal of the dentures for cleaning, while the third option is more permanent.

Benefits Of Implant Retained Dentures In Oklahoma City

With these types of dentures, patients enjoy less slipping, irritation, and pain compared to traditional dentures. And there’s no need to remove implant retained dentures in the evening for overnight cleaning and soaking. Because these types of dentures are fixed firmly to the jawbone, they act more like tooth roots allowing for better chewing and enjoyment of foods that are off-limits with traditional dentures.

Understanding The Implant Treatment Process

Restoring your smile with dental implants typically requires several months to complete. However, the initial implant placement procedure typically takes only a few hours. Several factors can affect how long the initial surgery takes, including:

  • Which teeth need replacing
  • How many teeth you need to replace
  • The need for tooth extractions

Placing a single implant to support a denture generally takes an hour or two. However, your surgery will likely take longer if you need a multiple implants to support a full denture.

Dr. Cord can discuss your medical history and any concerns you have during your initial consultation. She will also create a customized treatment plan so you can have a better sense of what to expect throughout treatment.

What To Expect During The Procedure

There are typically two distinct phases involved in dental implant surgery. Since you will need to heal between each phase, your treatment could take six to nine months to complete.

During the first phase of treatment, your oral surgeon will place the implant posts. A typical implant surgery has several steps:

  • Your surgical team will administer local anesthetic. In most cases, some type of dental sedation is also provided.
  • The surgeon makes an incision into the gum tissue to access the bone.
  • A specialized drill is used to create a space in the jaw for the implant.
  • The implant is placed.
  • The incisions are closed with sutures, covering the tops of the implants.

Over the next few months, the implant posts will fuse with the surrounding bone tissue. Dr. Cord and your surgeon will work together during this time to monitor your progress.

When both phases of your dental implant surgery is complete, Dr. Cord can take impressions and complete your treatment with a beautifully realistic implant-supported denture.
